Both my parents were All-Americans at Georgia. I was a five-star recruit in my own right, and the USTA asked me to move to Florida to train with the other top juniors. I turned it down. I wanted a normal life and didn't see myself going pro.
Played club tennis at UGA. Now ALTA AA-2 in Atlanta, most weeks. The junior record is still online.

My lolo came to America alone, by boat, at sixteen.
He became a general surgeon, served as a doctor in Vietnam, brought his family over, and was the first president of the Filipino American Association of Greater Atlanta. His name is Dr. Manolo Apanay. I'm a quarter Filipino because of him, and proud of it.
